We initiated the “Spices for Health” project to develop a value chain approach to supplying Szechuan pepper and cardamom from the Himalaya of Nepal to the European market. The project engages the target communities in research, capacity development, and strengthening local institutions to play a vital role in the production, processing, grading, and commercialization of the spices.
These activities help to increase the productivity and generate regular income by farmers in the community. It is essential that our products meet international quality standards in order to build sustainable market linkages and generate more income for local people.
Our supply of quality products aims to meet the international standards, in order to ensure the sustainability of our market linkages and enable higher income and better livelihoods among the local people. By exporting spices abroad, the government would benefit from remittances and taxes. As well, the natural resources are properly utilized without harming the environment; for instance, Szechuan pepper are collected in a way that people don’t harm the trees and we are starting szhechuan pepper plantations where is it feasible.
